IGF-1 LR3 (Long Arg3 Insulin-like Growth Factor-1) is an 83-amino-acid analog of naturally occurring human IGF-1. It features two distinct structural modifications: the substitution of a Glutamic acid for an Arginine at position 3 (hence “Arg3”), and a 13-amino-acid extension piece at the N-terminus (hence “Long”). These precise alterations dramatically decrease the peptide’s affinity for insulin-like growth factor-binding proteins (IGFBP).
Because it escapes binding to these inhibitory proteins, IGF-1 LR3 remains free in experimental environments to interact continuously with the IGF-1 receptor, resulting in an extended biological half-life and vastly increased potency compared to standard IGF-1.
